I came to know about a friend of mine, that his Ukrainian father is currently still in Ukraine. He worries about his father's situation every single day and there is absolutely nothing that he can do to help his father at all. After this war is over, there is still a high probability that he may not get the chance to meet his father. Hearing such news from him made me feel very sad because needless wars like these are beyond what we see on the news.
The recent invasion in the Ukraine has caused more than 2 million Ukrainians to be displaced as refugees as of 9th March, and this number is expected to double in the coming months. These war refugees are in grave danger of physical harm and severe emotional distress.
UNHCR is a global organisation dedicated to saving lives and supporting refugees, and they are urgently appealing for donations to deliver humanitarian aid in support of the people in Ukraine and its refugees in the neighbouring countries. Therefore, ITOBITO would like to organise a donation drive, and the proceeds will be used to help the people of Ukraine.
How is ITOBITO helping Ukraine?
On top of the 10% of profits from the HanaYume Collection that will be donated, we will also be making a special set of yarns (see above pic) for this purpose and ALL profits from these sets will go to Japan for UNHCR. These special sets will be available in 3 selections, Sock mini skeins set, 2 mini skeins 20g each (¥1600) , Sock full skeins set, 2 full skeins 100g each (¥5400) and Darumerino full skeins set, 2 full skeins 100g each (¥5400) to fit your budget. The charity sale will start on 13 March 9pm together with the HanaYume Collection. I will do my best to ensure stock availability. Donations will be going to the Japan for UNHCR and the amount will be updated on this page as soon as we transferred the fund.
Where is ITOBITO donating to?
Some of you might be thinking that I may not know where to donate to or what I have may not help anyway. There could also be concerns about fraud charity sites and apprehension with sending money overseas or on a foreign website. That is why we chose to donate directly to a trusted agency, Japan for UNHCR. Please visit their website to know more about how the funds are being used in this crisis. If you would like to make a donation without going through ITOBITO, feel free to donate at the website directly. They accept payment by credit cards, convenient stores, Paidy (internet banking) and Japan Post Banking. Other trusted donation agencies are as listed below:
